Summer Institute on Technology and Disability

An Introduction to Assistive Technology
June 23 - 26, 2008
University of Washington, Seattle Campus

Introduction to Assistive Technology is a comprehensive overview of the field of assistive technology. The course will provide participants with the organizing framework for addressing assistive technology issues in all contexts where assistive technology is used. As new technologies continue to be developed, this organizing framework will continue to facilitate an understanding of the advantages and limitations of different technologies (current and future), and their role in increasing access to education, employment, and community participation. Through lectures, demonstrations of assistive technology devices, case studies, and hands-on experience with AT, the focus will be on an interdisciplinary approach to the selection, implementation and use of technology to meet the educational, vocational, transitional and independent living needs of individuals (adults and children) with disabilities.
