Mark Harniss, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in Rehabilitation Medicine and Associate Director of the Center for Technology and Disability Studies with a background in the design and development of instructional and assistive technologies for people with disabilities. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in Special Education and a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology from Utah State University. His research focuses on knowledge translation, assistive technology and accessible design. Currently, he is PI of the Google-funded Sub-Saharan Africa Assistive Technology Mapping Project, director of the NIDILRR-funded ADA Knowledge Translation Center with lead responsibility in knowledge management and technology, and PI of a NIDILRR-funded knowledge translation grant that is focused on translating evidence about traumatic brain injury to practice within the Washington State Department of Corrections. In his early career, Dr. Harniss was faculty in Special Education with teaching responsibility in teacher preparation. He currently teaches within the UW Disability Studies Program with an emphasis on disability policy.
