The National Center on Accessible Information Technology in Education (AccessIT)
The National Center on Accessible Information Technology in Education (AccessIT) serves to increase the access of individuals with disabilities to information technology in educational institutions at all academic levels nationwide. It is funded by the U.S. Department of Education's National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (grant # #H133D010306) and is located at the University of Washington in Seattle . Dr. Kurt Johnson is the principal investigator and co-director. Dr. Sheryl Burgstahler is also a co-director, and Dr. Dagmar Amtmann is the assistant director.
Access to information technology, from telephones to computer software, is essential for people with disabilities to fully participate in today's high tech world. AccessIT develops and disseminates materials, training, and technical assistance that facilitate adoption of policies and practices leading to the increaseduse of accessible information technology in educational settings.
